Amazing results achieved with the underground teams at Pybar

Firstly we want to give a massive wrap to the management and health, safety and training teams at Pybar for their ability to see past compliance in the hazardous manual task space and implement a program that proactively addresses musculoskeletal injuries at their workplace.

“Since the introduction of the program in early 2021, we have seen a 45% reduction in the number of shoulder injuries and a 71% reduction in back injuries, with a 90% reduction in the severity associated with these injuries across our project sites.” Robert Patterson HSET Manager Pybar Mining Services

In our experience a lot of miners take the stance that mining is a challenging environment and thus body stressing injuries are bound to occur. When our team was initially approached by Robert Patterson (SHET Manager Pybar Mining services) we initially thought that this would be another one of these cases, however we were quickly energised by a business objective of significantly reducing their shoulder an back injuries and we had immediate support from management and safety all the way to operator level in utilising our wearable technology to both assess and capture for the purpose of customising an injury prevention program for Pybar. This dedication to the cause remained throughout and is a true testament to the business standing behind their objective of reducing injuries for their workers.

The program, developed with PYBAR to reduce the number of injuries their employees were sustaining while carrying out manual handling tasks, it focused on educating employees about the loads and risk factors they are placing on their bodies, as well as equipping them with techniques for reducing and where possible eliminating hazardous manual task risks.

Amazing Results

Since the introduction of the program in early 2021, Pybar have seen a 45% reduction in the number of shoulder injuries and a 71% reduction in back injuries, with a 90% reduction in the severity associated with these injuries across our project sites. This is an amazing result and an important part of PYBAR’s Pathway to Zero plan to improve our safety performance.

At Prescribe we get great satisfaction seeing our clients commitment to make a positive impact on safety and is always a fantastic match when their objective aligns with our mission ‘To create workplaces that proactively prevent injuries and have empowered workers who embrace change.’

Shane Rose made the following statement regarding the results:
“I am so happy to see such an amazing result achieved statistically for Pybar Mining Services, they have committed to the journey to proactively prevent musculoskeletal disorders since day one across the entire business, and trust me this level of dedication is difficult to find in the current climate. From my time underground with the Pybar teams, in multiple states of late, it was clear to me that the program had mad an impact on both safety culture and the workers mindset relating to musculoskeletal risk, so to see this translate to a material benefit for Pybar is fantastic. A fantastic result and I couldn’t be more pleased.”
